This prominent Italian jewellery firm was founded in 1881 by Sotirio Bulgari (1857-1931), descendant of a Greek family of silversmiths.He began his career as a jeweller in his home village Paramythia, where his first store can still be seen. In 1877, he left for Corfu and then Naples. In 1881 he moved to Rome, where in 1884 he founded his company and was later joined by his sons, Constantine (1889-1973) and Giorgio (890-1966). The two brothers are credited with creating the dictinctive Bulgari style based on Greek and Roman classicism as well as the Italian Renaissance and the 19th century Roman school of goldsmiths. The firm is highly reputed for its creation in luxury and exotic jewelerly serving the rich and famous. Bulgari is under French control since 2011.
