COSTUME JEWELLERY Henkel & Grosse, founded in 1907 in the German goldsmith town Pforzheim, made from c. 1920 costume jewellery for both the the European and American markets. In 1937 Henkel & Grosse received the highest distinction for costume jewellery, the “Diplôme d’Honneur” at the Paris World’s Fair for advanced, creative implementation of new technologies. After World War II the company is known as Grossé . In 1955,Christian Dior granted Grossé the rights for the manufacturing and distribution of its costume jewellery collection.. Grossé’s jewellery is made with gold and rhodium plated base metals. Since 1958 all of its jewellery is signed and dated, both for the Grossé as the Dior jewels.
